Our Story
Several years ago--largely inspired by Michael Pollen's Omnivore's Dilemma I restored a one acre plot of land farmed from colonial times to about 1950 and I planted a large market garden. I ordered a retail display of Fedco Seeds Company's most popular garden vegetables and planted about 50 varieties of vegetables and a few flowers. It was too much work, and not much help was available for hire--such is the plight of the small farm or large garden. After trying most every small-scale labor efficiency I found in catalogs and books, I had the idea to create what became Flora-Flow mats.
This idea of combining plastic mulch with irrigation dawned on many others long before it hit our team at Flora-Flow. And we would say our only contribution is to have come at the idea from a small garden perspective. Commercial growers have used plastic mulch and drip irrigation for years, buying these products in three to ten thousand foot rolls and laying them down with $50,000 tractors.
Our story is the idea that these great growing techniques could be vastly improved for small growers and gardeners. We have tried to add everything to this product to make hand installation and growing with it a real pleasure. We do the work in the factory, so you don’t need to do it in the field. If you have any other inventive ideas that we might include in the Flora-Flow products, let us know. We really appreciate your interest in Flora-Flow products! Feel free to contact me directly at any time with questions.
Yours,
Sam Finney, Founder.
